# Ollama setup

> Connect LMSA to an Ollama server running on your local network.

Connect LMSA to Ollama running on your computer for local, private chat. All traffic stays on your network.

**1. Expose Ollama to your network**

The steps differ by operating system.

**Windows:**

* Open the Ollama app and go to **Settings**
* Enable **Expose Ollama to the network**
* Make sure Ollama is running

**Linux / macOS:**

* Start Ollama with environment variables so it listens on the network
* Set `OLLAMA_HOST=0.0.0.0`, then restart or relaunch the Ollama server

**2. Find the host IP address**

Check your computer's Wi-Fi adapter IP:

* **Windows:** Open Command Prompt, type `ipconfig`, and look for the IPv4 Address under "Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi"
* **macOS:** Go to System Preferences > Network, select Wi-Fi, and note the IP address
* **Linux:** Open Terminal and type `ifconfig` or `ip a`

**3. Enter the connection address in LMSA**

Open LMSA **Settings** and enter the host IP address where Ollama is running, plus the Ollama port. The default port is **11434**.

Example: `http://192.168.1.25:11434`

**4. Start chatting**

Tap **Apply**, return to the chat, and send your first message.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The connection between your Android device and the Ollama server is not encrypted. Only use LMSA on networks and devices you trust. Avoid sending passwords or sensitive personal information.
